Question 1: Why would I need a notary?

Question 2: What is the difference between a jurat and an acknowledgment?

-Jurat: The signer must swear or affirm that the contents of the document are true, and they must sign in the notary’s presence. It involves an oath or affirmation.

-Acknowledgment: The signer does not need to sign in front of the notary, but must personally appear and acknowledge that they willingly signed the document.

- In short: a jurat is about truthfulness of the content and requires an oath, while an acknowledgment is about verifying the identity and intent behind the signature.
